Accurate and rapid diagnosis is important to the wellbeing and outcome of the patient’s health. Already patients take it upon themselves to go to Dr Google and WebMD first to diagnose their symptoms prior to consulting with a health professional. There is a fundamental shift to online diagnosis.
Many conditions have ongoing research and clinical trials, uncovering new and unexpected clinical underpinnings to the condition and treatment paradigms. The amount of information is unrelenting, more than a human can be expected to take in and assimilate constantly. However, companies with a strong patient help focus are now utilizing the power of AI to not only assist the clinicians in assimilating all the data but allowing earlier and faster diagnosis and treatment.
The Client Problem
Our client had noticed that the patients who were being referred to their Specialist Physicians were already in advanced stages of the condition, which meant that the drug would be less effective as most of the damage had already occurred before the patients were given the drug. The client wished to assist the Primary Care Physicians in making an earlier decision to refer the patient to the appropriate Specialist.
The Solution
Eularis examined anonymous patient record data and divided it into two groups for analysis. One group was the longitudinal patient record data, for patients that were eventually referred and confirmed to have the condition. The other group was patients with similar symptoms who did not end up having the condition. Eularis then utilized thousands of patient records to train our machine learning based algorithms to identify what it was about the patients that could allow them to be diagnosed far earlier definitely.
The results of the project: the client was able to create simple diagnostic tools for the Primary Care Physicians to use if a patient had the identified symptom cluster so that they could be reasonably sure that this was the diagnosis and refer the patient to a Specialist much faster.
The Outcome
Although the client is in early days of getting physicians into the program, the client has reported a 27% incremental increase, so far, in patients being put on their treatment in the zip codes where the system has been implemented with pilot Primary Care Physicians than before implementation of the system.
To achieve these kinds of results, contact Eularis today.
